ever thought about having a really slick, neat minimal xfce/fluxbox system without having to emerge some bloaty and/or crappy login manager such as {x,k,g}dm which you actualy dont need and dont want because they usualy pull in bunch of kde/gnome related stuff?

well fear no more:

Code: Select all

sudo echo "su -c "startxfce4" your_username" >> /etc/conf.d/local.start;rc-update del xdm
change "startxfce4" for your session as well as your_username for your own..
hope you like it..it works excellent for me because i wanted to avoid pulling in gdm/kdm on brand new lean xfce desktop.. :)

Looks cool, although you can setup XDM to look pretty good, there was a topic about it somewhere a few years ago ;)

heh, well exact point of this topic is that one-user-system do not need login manager at all :)
thus saving you either from emerging additional packages to system and/or one default runlevel service less :)
everybody wins in any case. isnt that cool? :D
