But do AGPART drivers have any impact on PCI-E cards?

I can't understand this:
no you dont need agpgart in your kernel if your video card has it
Has what?
My card is A PCI-E one - not AGP

Are you running seti or folding@home? I was and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why my glxgears wasn't working.

AXP 3200+
1gig ram
GeForce4 Ti4600 128mb
nvidia-kernel 1.0.717
nvidia-glx 1.0.7174-r4

With folding running:

Code: Select all

tom@liquidice ~ $ glxgears
128 frames in 5.0 seconds = 25.600 FPS
778 frames in 5.0 seconds = 155.600 FPS
828 frames in 5.0 seconds = 165.600 FPS
791 frames in 5.0 seconds = 158.200 FPS
722 frames in 5.0 seconds = 144.400 FPS
Without folding:

Code: Select all

tom@liquidice ~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/foldingathome stop && glxgears
 * Stopping Folding@Home on CPU 1 ...                                               [ ok ]
15607 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3121.400 FPS
18370 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3674.000 FPS
18336 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3667.200 FPS
18355 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3671.000 FPS
18391 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3678.200 FPS
word.

That's the speed I get on my Athlon XP 2000+, 512MB RAM, 4xAGP NVIDIA GF4 Ti4200 128MB, in 24bit mode. In 16bit, I get over 5000fps. Your rates sound damn slow considering your hardware is supposed to be a bit faster than mine. :-)

I have AGPGART enabled in my Kernel (AGP + AGP_NVIDIA) & Direct Rendering Manager (DRM)

on Kernel Version 2.6.10-gentoo-r6

on Glxgears I have the following

Code: Select all

7050 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1410.000 FPS
7555 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1511.000 FPS

turn BOINC off

31162 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6232.400 FPS
39529 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7905.800 FPS
40040 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8008.000 FPS
40531 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8106.200 FPS
My system is a P4-3G 1G DDR2 and PCIe-X nVidia Corporation NV35 [GeForce PCX 5900] (rev a2)

Thank you madmango

I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my 6600gt was giving me 7500+ fps sometimes and only 300 fps most of the time.
The question is why Folding@home is killing glxgears so badly. glxgears is running on a higher nice level than 19, so folding *shouldn't* affect it the way it does

Oh well, point is noted. Kill Folding@Home before running any 3D sh!t

Just for information, I'm running a nVidia 7800GTX and I have these frame rates, with mythtranscode running only on 1 CPU (Pentium 2.8 -D)

Code: Select all

64966 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12993.200 FPS
66556 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13311.200 FPS
66408 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13281.600 FPS
66578 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13315.600 FPS
66324 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13264.800 FPS
66820 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13364.000 FPS
64981 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12996.200 FPS
65369 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13073.800 FPS
xvidtune resolution = 1280x1024

Ok, I just tried GlxGears at Full Screen...

The previous results were running at the window size that open when you run the application.

Code: Select all

26069 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5213.629 FPS
26029 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5205.688 FPS
25523 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5104.573 FPS
25665 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5131.810 FPS
25519 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5102.268 FPS
24922 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4984.241 FPS
26069 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5213.755 FPS
25284 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5056.595 FPS
26348 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5269.562 FPS
25886 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5177.045 FPS
This was running Full Screen at 1024x768
