Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)
It is recommended to manually run modules-update after adding modules to the autoload file.
But, you will also get this error after installing a new kernel.
It will look for it in /boot, /usr/src/linux, then /. Only / is mounted when the script is run. If /boot and /usr are on separate partitions it won't be able to find it. I would copy System map to / when installing a new kernel.
I rember indeed when I once installed with stage 1 that I needed to do some things with system.map and others. Now I again followed the handbook (manual kernel config) but I can't find those steps any more.
Any one can tell me them? As soon as my emerge is done I can then pick up this thread again.
heh
I don't use the new handbook either, I always use the 2005.0
I printed the whole thing back then and put it all in a huge binder, and printed every how-to i used for the past 2 years. , I have one heck of a gentoo book all organized with colored tabs. Damn what a nerd I can be.
I'll never let my 2005 CD's go......
- Failure is not an option. It's bundled with your software.
I commited a bug (now marked fixed) on bugzilla.
this bug should now (once it's gone live) only happen if both /usr and /boot are separate partitions than /
