Quake 3: Hogging CPU Cycles

OK, I'm a full on quake 3 addict and I need quake to work perfectly, but I do not expect it use 99% of my CPU cycles.

This problem is not consistent, but every so ofen I run quake and it decides to whore 99.9% of the CPU? Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix it?

I would say it's a feature - Q3A renders as many fps as it can. There is a command - maxfps - which may cause it to use less cpu cycles, but most people playing with the command set it 125 to get higher jumps.

It's 100% normal for Quake, as well as most 3D games and emulators to do that.
