Good Games

  • Quote

Post by Portaged » Sat Jan 07, 2006 10:58 am

I would like to make a list of all relatively good games for linux (not with Wine, it costs cash) so that new users (me included) can search here, because on several websites there are just to many and most of them are ****.
I'll start:
Free & Open Source:
Glest (included in Gentoo)
Tux Racer

Shareware/Commercial:
Tribal Trouble

Do you know any others (and I'm sure you do) please post them.

Nope, it doesn't.

Anyway, the usual suspects:

Enemy Territory
Americas Army
Transport Tycoon Deluxe
LGeneral
Nexius
Decent 1/2
Eternal Lands

Unreal Tournament plain/2003/2004
Doom3

puh boy, there are so many games, and it is very subjective what are "good" ones. I guess you mean complex or costly ones.
Well i tryed my best :)
The Creature from Jekyll Island.

Another vote for the UT series

Also Doom3 and Quake 4 are particularly good...

WineX costs 5 dollars a month, doesn't it?
And with good games I do not mean costy ones, I even prefer Open Source, I like to mod.
And what's a good game... I think Tux Racer is really good, it's (looks) simple and it's fun.
But do you know a good strategy game? I found Tribal Trouble (it costs money) and Glest. But I think Glest is to 'serious'. Tribal Trouble is fun but with the small amount of units and buildings it quickly gets boring...

WineX (now Cedega) is a commercial implementation of Wine which has much better support for gaming related APIs from windows ie. Direct3d

see the Transgaming site for more details

I'm very fond of Wesnoth. I think you ought to search the forum a bit, there are several threads about good games...

I would say UT2k4 plus with the MOD AlienSwarm (the mod is in portage btw)

That game is just great
#define HelloWorld int
#define Int main()
#define Return printf
#define Print return
#include <stdio>
HelloWorld Int {
Return("Hello, world!\n");
Print 0;

Also try Red Orchestra (also in portage) if you fancy something a bit more realistic - They also won the 'Make something Unreal' contest for best mod...

Damn! Never thought of something similar... This game is pure gore :P It is really a cool time waster for those dead moments when you have to wait for some silly download to finish, I will make some experiments to check whether it is better to play it drunken or not :P :twisted:

I just played neverputt. I think it is the most frustrating game I've ever played. I promptly got rid of all traces of it on my computer. It made me want to take my imaginary putter and break it over someones head then throw it off the course so it can land in "the void" with all of the balls I putted there.

Anything else released by Introversion by the time you read this

UT Series++
Quake series++

Under Wine:
Total Annihilation
Eve Online (tho I don't 100% trust it yet, they seem to be making good progress tho)

I'll only list ones not mentioned:
(All free and Open Source)

Tremulous - Open source (Previously Q3 mod) Alien V.S. Human FPS-style game.
Xmoto - Arcade motocross game, very addictive and every day there are new maps. Anyone can make a map & submit, highscores, skins, etc.
Xmame - Emulate all of your favorite arcade games (Metal slug ftw)
