|

Hi there!
I'm not able to update my portage tree. Everytime when gentoo goes through the packages (after downloading the files at the beginning), the Internet connection (56k) shuts down.
While doing an emerge -u system (i thought, that this could solve the problem ;-]), I get this error-message:
o timeout after 180 seconds - exiting
rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(103)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (986016 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(165)
can that be the reason, why emerge sync won't do his work (sorry, i've forgot the right verb), too?
thanks!

I just get:
root@The-Qube-0004 neocore # emerge sync
>>> starting rsync with rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage...
and thats it... it hangs there and does nothing... my net access is up and everything else is working _________________ To err is human, but to really foul things up, you need a computer

Are you behind a firewall that is blocking port 873? Does increasing the RSYNC_TIMEOUT variable in /etc/make.conf help? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

No, i'm not behind a firewall... But where can I change the port?
I think, it would work when I would change the port to port 80 ...
there isn't a RSYNC_TIMEOUT variable... ;-)
thanks!

There should be, #RSYNC_TIMEOUT=180 is what the line looks like by default. Anyone else seeing what I see? emerge rsync gets to download all 45000 files, writes a few chunks, but then hollers at me:

Happens on two different mirrors, Germany (baecker.com) and Netherlands (Easynet Group), with a timeout of five minutes. |
