I'd rather see a new field with author, like the "last post" field.
And an enable/disable option would be great.

i vote for enable/disable ... it still seems really cluttered to me now. i feel like i can't just glance down the list and see all the topics as easily.

Absolutely hate it! I'll be happy if it's enable/disable or completely gone. :)

I think this change is an improvement, although I'm starting to like the idea of having the author and date right aligned.
I've voted for the enable/disable because no matter the final design, users should have the option to use it or not.

Personally I don't really mind the new layout, but I think being able to search inside a thread would be more useful.

Looks too cluttered to my eyes. Most boards that have a "post started by/on" feature use a separate column in the topics table for that information -- that would be much cleaner (to me, anyway).

Ah, the change...
  • Previously only the topics were visible in the left column. And that was good.
  • Now the topics are interspersed with author information. At first sight it seems cluttered.
  • But OTOH to see who started the topic, previously I needed to move my eyes to the right (slower). Now I just need to look on the next line (faster).
  • But TBH it's not healthy. It looks like there is twice the information on the page that it was before. I have to squint my eyes to extract the topic text (bad, bad, BAD!).
  • It makes me feel like I wouldn't want to read the topics -> stop using the forums. If that's your intent, fine. This would only make me to create a GreaseMonkey script to REMOVE the author information.
To sum up - for me there are more cons than pros. I opted for enable/disable. An informative design was already presented, I think.

But it doesn't work... the text is still black.

I also think it looks too cluttered. I don't see what advantage this new look & feel has over the old way.

Also, it feels harder to see how many pages there are in a thread (compared to before yesterday)

Nobody thought about people normally wearing glasses. Normally I never had to wear my glasses at home, but now I have to to be able to see the difference between the thread-title and this info line.

Greyification is interesting but obviously useless when not logged in (I personally never login until I want to write something). Either setup another table column or make it customizable (i.e. on/off) in the profiles.

I don't like it, the topic column is too cluttered, and everything looks very confusing. If it can't be disabled, I think I'll use the forum less often.

Agree! It's absolutely complex.
I think the thread starter isn't that important that he/she has to be fixed under the thread title. The old style was okay because it was comfortable for reading and getting a fast overview over the listed threads in a forum.
