For some strange reason the installer fails everytime I try :(
it gives the following error:
Setup was unable to add the following file to C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\War3.mpq: blizzard.ax
Error 0x85200064:
(C:\temp\020606lockit\Installer\Source\MpqUtil.cpp:45)

Operation Aborted
Anyone come across this problem?

are you using the cvs version??

i installed wc3 with winex (bought-version) and its running great (only without videos)

if you're able to understand german, you can take a look at: HowTo WC3

@djprotoss: what kernel are you using. because i had this problem with 2.5.x kernels only.

@mo-ca: for me even movies work great.

On the machine (its not actually mine - its my g/f's, but thats another story)
its running gentoo-sources (r1 iirc) and its using the official transgaming binaries. The point may well be moot as I am currently having to rebuild her system after an extremly nasty spot of reiser corruption...

Addendum:
Ok, I've rebuilt her system (now on ext3) using gaming-sources-r3, and I get exactly the same problem. Any thoughts anyone?

[EDIT:]
have now also tried it using development-sources, and using cxoffice (I know its not designed for that, but I thought it was worth a go). and it always gives the same r*&^y error Gah.

did ever you install from that cd ?? [perhaps windows]

perhaps its only a problem with the cd, because the mpq-files were only copied during the install from the cd to harddisk.

perhaps you should give a try and copy it yourself to your install-directory

@eNTi: nice for you, the movies are working for me too, but it doesnt switch back to game afterwards. (game crashes)
--> but no problem xine and mplayer are playing the movies nice

/me slaps forehead Doh!

the cd was scratched. I didn't suspect it since it had recently installed under windows, and was still working for running it under windows.

Now it installs ok. Doesn't do anything when I run wine3x War3.exe mind you, but thats another problem that will have to wait a couple of days while I take some more of my finals.

Gah. This is crazy.

Ok, I've determined that it wasn't the cd being scratched - The time i got it to work i was actually installing of the HD (i'd forgotten). I've tried it with a friends cd and I get exactly the same problem :(

Having got it installed via the HD, i've been unable to get it to recognise the CD (despite various attempts at playing with config and user.reg). I eventually gave up and used a sort-of-patch program that i found in the usual places (wink wink).

now when I run it at least gives an error message...
bash-2.05b$winex3 war3.exe
[FAIL] CoCreateInstance(CLSID_FilterGraph, NULL, CLSTX_INPROC, IID_IGraphBuilder, (void **)&s_pGraph = -2147024891wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger
...
bash-2.05b$
p.s. I've tried it with and without -opengl

[EDIT:] I've rebooted into windows and checked the patch works. It does :(

I had this same problem loading from CD, it seems to be a problem with the cached copy in /tmp, I simply deleted all my war3 stuff from /tmp, and re-installed with no problem.

Hope this helps.

Aside from getting through the installer, I still come up with a blank screen when I try to run the game. It seems a few other people have run into this aswell? I have tried patching to newer versions of War3 thinking they might have change some initializations, but no luck. I have also tried using different versions of wine, includeing Winex3.0, Winex3.1, wine-20030508. I must say this is rather frustrating because War3 worked VERY well (aside from a slightly noticable skew in the fonts) on a version of standard wine that I installed last summer on a gentoo box.

Any idea's?
