  • Quote

Post by Matteo Azzali » Tue Dec 06, 2005 3:08 pm

I was searching for a dvdrip kde app from some time, then I wroted down this ebuild
for k9copy:
(DVD9->DVD5 backup utility, good to do personal backup copy as is my right by Italian law,
check the laws in your country before risk....)

/usr/local/portage/media-video/k9copy/k9copy:

Code: Select all

# Copyright 1999-2003 Gentoo Technologies, Inc.
# Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2
# $Header: $

inherit kde
need-kde 3.3

S="${WORKDIR}/${P}"
DESCRIPTION="k9copy is a DVD backup utility which allow the copy of one or more titles from a DVD9 to a DVD5"
HOMEPAGE="http://k9copy.free.fr/"
SRC_URI="http://k9copy.free.fr/k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz"
LICENSE="GPL-2"
SLOT="0"
KEYWORDS="~x86"
IUSE=""
DEPEND="media-video/dvdauthor
        media-libs/libdvdread
        app-cdr/dvd+rw-tools
        app-cdr/k3b"
It seems to work, if someone else tries it succesfully please reply here.

well, I've been trying it here and works like a charm

This is a must have for any Linux distro, so I will ask you to open a bug report and post there the ebuild
Than post here the bug #, and I will post my feedback there ;)

In my opinion, and because of the demand for such app, this need to be added to portage ASAP :)

by the way, you need to change this lines:

Code: Select all

DESCRIPTION="k9copy is a DVD backup utility which allow the copy of one or more titles from a DVD9 to
a DVD5"
HOMEPAGE="http://k9copy.free.fr/"
SRC_URI="http://k9copy.free.fr/file.php?file=k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz"

Description and homepage were my hurry-mistake, but SRC_URI won't work here if without //,
some mirror make mistake and it wont work. (file.php? is a bad beast...)
If someone knows how to correct source URI in another way for better downloads, please tell me.

well here don't work:

Code: Select all

 wget http://k9copy.free.fr/file.php?file=//k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz
--18:48:17--  http://k9copy.free.fr/file.php?file=//k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz
           => `file.php?file=%2F%2Fk9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz'

18:48:23 (976.56 KB/s) - `file.php?file=%2F%2Fk9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz' saved [9]
but without "//" works like a charm:

Code: Select all

wget http://k9copy.free.fr/file.php?file=k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz
--18:48:35--  http://k9copy.free.fr/file.php?file=k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz

I'm using wget-1.10.2 on x86.

here
wget http://k9copy.free.fr/file.php?file=k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz

downloads the file, but with the filename: file.php?file=k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz
:?

wget 1.10.2 on x86, compiled with gcc 3.4.....

hum, I'm trying
wget http://k9copy.free.fr/k9copy-1.0.1.tar.gz here's working even if isn't the official url, there?

that's a strange behaviour of wget. The only diference, is that I've compiled my with gcc 3.3.6.

but as a ugly hack I think you could use the direct URL, without passing the counter in php :)

I added ebuild to existing bugreport, however media-video and media-tv seems to not want
to add new/delete old ebuild in these times (lack of mantainers?)

Works great for me, both the ebuild and k9copy. As a sidenote, this *does* really need to be added to portage, since k9copy is the only app that can perform a decent backup dvd9->dvd5, even if it's years behind dvd shrink for windows.
For every problem there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong.

Well, if you want this ebuild in portage go in the bugreport I linked in my previous post and add a comment like
"worked great for me, when will be added in portage?" but at present time there aren't mantainers free for portage/media-video
(this is what they told me) and thus should be better if is moved to kde-misc .... trying to ask this also in bugreport??

Done. I've emailed one of the devs about moving in kde-misc.

Very nice...

Just had to re-emerge libdvdread after getting "Can't seek to block..." errors, but then it worked a charm.

Thanks for the work guys!

I have tried the new 1.0.2.ebuild from http://packages.gentoo.org/ebuilds/?k9copy-1.0.2 and http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116245 but although the emerge goes ok and k9copy starts fine, I get a vamps -i 'Bad factor' message early in the copy process.. this happens both with vamps-0.95 and 0.97.
Mvh

Edit, but it only occurs with 'series' dvd's. ordinary ones are OK.

looks like there's a problem with vamps-0.98.. when selecting 'copy' in k9copy I get the message
"vamps : /bin/sh: vamps: command not found"
and porthole shows no files in /usr/bin..

Code: Select all

>>> Merging media-video/vamps-0.98 to /
--- /usr/
--- /usr/bin/
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
>>> media-video/vamps-0.98 merged.
edit: this one works ok
http://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?i ... ction=view
but there still seems to be a problem with 'complete series' dvd's, which appear to hang with 99% cpu at:

Code: Select all

libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.9 for DVD access

libdvdread: Attempting to retrieve all CSS keys
libdvdread: This can take a _long_ time, please be patient

libdvdread: Get key for /VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB at 0x00000145
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
libdvdread: Get key for /VIDEO_TS/VTS_02_0.VOB at 0x00003258
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
libdvdread: Get key for /VIDEO_TS/VTS_02_1.VOB at 0x00023eea
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
libdvdread: Found 2 VTS's
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.9 for DVD access
whereas I have been able to backup 2-disc 'Series x part-y & part-z' OK
