|
|
Hi there,
I run gentoo stable with gnome and metacity and have recently noticed that windows are not focusing properly when I click on them in the gnome-panel. Basically what happens is that clicking on them will defocus the current window, but not focus the new window. I then have to click a second time to focus the window properly.
I have noticed that this happens in the following situations:
firefox -> gnome-terminal
gnome-terminal -> firefox
xchat -> gnome-terminal
gnome-terminal -> xchat
etc. I've noticed this DOESN'T happen when changing window to/from nautilus.
Hope someone can help me out!!! thanks, Matt

Happens to me too.
There was a thread here that claimed finding a solution, but after a reboot it returned to the previous state... |

Did you use gconf to change apps -> metacity -> general ->focus_mode?
Making focus_mode = mouse can make some unexpected thing happen. |

i was going insane on this, thinking that i was the only one having this problem... fortunately (or not), i'm not.
i thought that perhaps this was because i'm using gnome-panel-2.6.3, but since it happens to other versions, let's see how it goes.. _________________ noup. |

| I think I found the problem, I opened the GConf Editor and went to Apps -> Medacity and enabled "disable_workarounds". When I did this, I didn't notice the problem but a new problem became apparent. XMMS doesn't work properly (read the disable_workarounds description or just try it yourself). Anyway, wither this requires a bug fix in medacity or a fix in xmms to not require the workarounds. |

The bug is filed, but maybe they won't fix it as a high priority as 2.10 is probably on the way. In the mean time I've switched to using openbox with gnome instead of metacity.
Its done like this:
| Code: | emerge openbox
openbox --replace
