Hi,
On a new Gentoo install (IBM Thinkpad) I can log in as root - but if I log in as a normal user, I cannot su to get root access. I type in the password, I just get "Permission denied. Sorry."
I've tried with a root password containing only ASCII characters and numbers, to make sure it's not a keymap problem.
I used a 2004.3 Universal CD, FWIW.
Any ideas? What could I look for?
Regards,
Thomas. |

are you sure that the user which use "su" is also in the "wheel" group?
What do that command say?
| Code: |
more /etc/group|grep wheel

Bingo - used usermod to add the user to the wheel group, all works perfectly. Thanks, Montesq.
Beating the record yet again, that's now a 6 minute response time. These forums inspire a good deal of awe.
