ctorrent upload limit?

  • Quote

Post by Lajasha » Wed Dec 08, 2004 9:39 pm

First, I see that ctorrent allows you to limit the bandwidth but is that a unpload and download cap or just one or the other?

Second, How the hell do ya read that status line? 8O
/ 15,[10/1062/1062],2016,3600 | 0,16384 E:0

Any answers are appreciated.

First, with torrents, if you cap your uploads, then your downloads get capped as well.

As for the status bar, it goes:

Code: Select all

/ 15,[10/1062/1062],2016,3600 | 0,16384 E:0
/ seeds,[parts downloaded/total for torrent/total available from seeders],avg speed in,avg speed out | current speed in, current speed out
The E:0 area will display error codes/explanations, if there are any.

not really correct

when i use:

Code: Select all

btlaunchmanycurses to_my_torrent_files/ --max_upload_rate 1
each torrent then roughly has a maximum upload of 1, but i have for the same torrent file downloads like 20 and more, once even >60.

Yea torrent does do the tic for tac bit but if you are on long enough even if you only up at 5K, which i what I normaly set it at, your speed will increase to the maximum the connection/torrent can provide.

I really like ctorrent except for the fact that you cant limit the upload and since it try to eat my connection alive my download speed suffers and when I try to do anything else with the box network wise it suffers as ctorrents upload is filling the connection.

Yes ctorrent will manhandle the bandwidth if you're not careful. I've even been knocked off GAIM several times because the bandwidth was all being used by my other box.
