I am new to gentoo and have basic linux knowledge and have been following the install guide. If anyone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated. |

Try using different mirrors. Run
| Code: |
# mirrorselect -a -s4 -o |grep 'GENTOO_MIRRORS=' >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf
|
to select some mirrors (or define them by hand in your make.conf:)
| Code: |
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.belnet.be/pub/linux/gentoo"

I get the same error. I've run mirrorselect until I'm blue in the face, and it still stops on this same error from this same mirror site. Also, most of the other mirror sites don't work. I noticed during my 'emerge' that most of them took errors.
My latest mirrorselect doesn't even have sleepycat in it, but I still get this error.
What am I doing wrong? Or are most of the listed mirrors actually broken? |

This has nothing to do with mirrors. Many many gentoo ebuilds have hard coded "addresses" for downloading source.
Apparently "sleepycat" has changed where they put their source, and the ebuild maintainer has not updated the ebuilds. Even after an emerge sync this morning the ebuild has the wrong address. So, after visiting the sleepycat website, and finding the download links, I've "hacked" my ebuild as follows:
First, become root on your machine:
| Code: |
# cd /usr/portage/sys-libs/db/
(using your favorite editor...vi rules...change the URL references)
# vi db-4.1.25_p1-r4.ebuild
(line 21:)
SRC_URI="http://downloads.sleepycat.com/${MY_P}.tar.gz"
(line 25:)
export SRC_URI="${SRC_URI} http://downloads.sleepycat.com/${MY_PV}/patch.${MY_PV}.${i}"
|
Save the file (:x) and repeat emerge -uv world.
Worked for me!
P.S. this is in bugzilla:

I ran into these same problems when I was doing a stage 1 install of Gentoo. My resolution was finally to delete the mirrors line in my config file. I also tried to choose different mirrors and continued to receive errors, but after I deleted the mirrors line it worked just fine. After doing the install however, I think I would recommend adding the mirrors back into the config file b/c I think it will help to find mirrors closer to you for faster downloads. Plus, I think without the mirrors line in the file it downloads from Gentoo or somewhere similiar and thats taking up some valuable bandwidth...but I could be wrong! lol
PS -- I am *VERY* new to Gentoo and pretty new to Linux, but I have to say after trying different distros previously, Gentoo is definitely the best I've ever used!

| Remove the mirrors from your make.conf and don't run mirror select. The installer will use the default mirrors and download the file you are hanging up on. |

If You still need this file You can get it manually here:
http://62.3.120.141/MrGutis/ <-- Thanks to NeddySeagoon who solved this for me. I just don't know how long NeddySeagoon will keep it open. Then add that file to /usr/portage/distfiles and rerun emerge system. That worked for me _________________ Help me identify my destiny |

I've just corrected the db ebuilds so that they download from the new locations. Of course the mirrors should still work normally even if the master source location is broken. _________________ Paul de Vrieze
