| During emerge system, the install can't progress because I can't install Automake, which requires Autoconf 2.58 or newer... How do I get by this problem? |

same here,
installing from stage2 with knoppix live cd
when emerging automake it says "
error: autoconf 2.58 or better is required
Please make sure it is installed and in your PATH"
well it isn't installed, but when trying 2 emerge it, it gives this error as well. |

| Yes, I also did a Stage2 install... I wonder if from Stage3 you don't have this problem (though I'd rather do a stage2 install). |

emerge --resume --skipfirst
emerge autoconf
emerge automake

I ran "emerge --nodeps autoconf", then continued my "emerge system", as the two have the same dependancies so everything ends up built. The suggestion above didn't work for me.
This appears to work without horribly breaking anything. |

Doing this worked for me, I just reversed the order of the Badmaster's comands and omitted the first command.
| Code: | emerge automake
emerge autoconf |
