I'm really new in gentoo, and i already fell in love with it, but have one thing that i'd like to to and still can't find a way to do it.

Is it posible to remove packages that are no longer needed ? those installed because where needed when some other package was installed, but then this package was removed and then created this "orphan" ones. Something like Aptiude did in Debian.

Thanks in advance

when I run emerge -p depclean it tells me it will unmerge modutils, that package shouldn't be deleted, right? so beware.

If you want to prevent certain package from being unmerged.
Add a line to /var/cache/edb/world

even doing a silly question, got good answers really fast. People are nice here, that's a really good thing.

i tried the emerge -p --depclean and it shows modutils too. I don't think i'll ever run emerge --depclean, but i'll definitly use it with --pretend to suggest me the ones i should remove, and then remove them manually.

I love Gentoo :D
