java.plugin for Netscape 7.1 (solved)

  • Quote

Post by benjamin200 » Sat Nov 13, 2004 8:15 pm

Hello,
I have Netscape 7.1 running. Since I have my 64-Bit system I wasn't able to use the java.plugin. I install blackdown-jre but no success for netscape. Anybody set it up and get it worked?

Thx,
Ben

You will need a 32bit-jre. For me blackdown-jre-1.4.1 works fine with all mozilla browsers (and probably netscape too).

Just add the following line to /etc/portage/package.mask:

Code: Select all

>dev-java/blackdown-jre-1.4.1
and install blackdown-jre:

Code: Select all

emerge blackdown-jre

Hi Kuhrscher,
the libary form blackdown-jre-1.4.1 works for me and netscape. But I don't understand why the 1.4.1 release will be installed 32-bit-jre.

If I emerge the blackdown-jre-1.4.2-r2 release, the codes for amd64 will be installed on my system, but if I install the blackdown-jre-1.4.1 32-bit-jre will be installed.

Why the 1.4.1 release install 32-bit?
Is there any way to install 1.4.2 with 32-bit-codes for my system?

Thx
Ben

Hi Ben,

blackdown-jre and blackdown-jdk where just 32-bit til 1.4.2-rc1, which was for a long time the only 64-bit jdk.

So you get 32-bit, when you emerge blackdown-1.4.1 and 64-bit for all newer versions.

The same for sun-jdk: 64-bit for sun-jdk-1.5.0, 32-bit for all older versions.

If you want a new version in 32-bit, i think you can just download the binary package for 32-bit from blackdown or sun.

I don't know of netscape, but i have sun-jre-1.5.0 in 32-bit running with firefox-bin (32-bit).

Hope this helps,
Hartmut
