Being a Windows system administrator and totally sick of the costs associated with Microsoft Licensing that our company pays each 2 years for upgrades, I decided to do some research on the various linux distributions for future implentation into our network.

Never one to deny myself a challenge I chose the Gentoo Distro because of all the hints, tips and hacks that are available in this great community. I now have a fully working and optimised gentoo installation on our test server thanks to a couple of days of installation, slow progress but very well informed thanks to this community.

I've still a lot to learn but these forums have been great. My only issue is replacement of our 5 exchange servers, although I am looking into insight and openexchange.

The company I work for (part time sys admin, full time student) is also trying to replace the rediculously expensive MS servers. Even paying for one of the other commercial alternatives would probably still be cheaper then the MS route.

I only hope that he was being ironical, although, I agree that phpBB search sucks big time.

Search is better- do you know how hard it is to get a straight answer to a very specific question on irc? makes you just rtfm yourself
