I would love to divorce myself entirely from my Windows box. Anyone using a pocket pc with linux?

I'm up for any crazy suggestions. I'm curious to know if anyone runs outlook in win4lin or something similar...?

Yes, I am. I use an HP iPAQ h5550 which syncs with Evolution via multisync and synce. It works like a charm :D

I'm actually waiting on a few more patches before I can install Linux on that too. Then I'd be able to set up the 802.11b WLAN properly so it didn't keep connecting to the wrong bloody network

That HP is sync'd through a USB port, right?

No, because the h5xxx series aren't supported by the kernel, and seeing as it's easy enough to get it working through a serial port without having to hand-patch the kernel with the ipaq-0.6-olivier.patch every time I update, I thought I might as well do that. But yes, it was synced through a USB port - both work.

I got into linux ON the ipaq a couple of years ago.

I stuck a page up with screenshots and other info here, though things have progressed quite a bit since then with OPIE and GPE.

Hopefully I will get an Ipaq 5550 or similar when I leave uni.. mmm.. :)

I recently got a Pocket PC (Ipaq) and haven't yet had chance to un-Windows it
Is it straightforward? Can you boot from a CF card to try it without blowing away Windows... hey it's unlikely I'd want to go back but I don't know how mature the tools and stuff are - I'm just starting to investigate
Thanks for any light you can shed

robmoss2k: What kernel version are you running?

I've had a lot of trouble trying to get my Axim syncing with the 2.6 series; for some reason, the PPP driver just refuses to work, and I haven't been able to figure out why. I'm curious to know if you've encountered any similar problems.

While I'm google'ing, I might as well ask too;

Where would I find some documentation on syncing up my Pocket PC with my gentoo box?

Thanks!

with WinCE, you can use synce with multisync.

With Opie or GPE, not sure yet.....

Thanks much!

After I get USB working... one month (it's been a headache for sometime, but I'm running 2.4.20 r9), I'll get this running too.

I've no idea about the particularls of getting the Axim to sync with Linux. If the PPP driver doesn't work, might I suggest that you find a serial cradle rather than a USB one? USB cradles are notoriously unfriendly...
