I'm creating a kernel and ramdisk image for network, diskless workstation booting. I was using the gentoo kernel and it would boot up, mount initrd and start working.

THEN I compiled the openmosix kernel and it gets right up to
Code:
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).

and freezes. Switching back to the gentoo kernel, it boots. Switching back to openmosix, it doesn't. I tried disabling the openmosix feature in the openmosix kernel (just for posterity) but this has no effect.

I'm going to keep playing around, any ideas?

don't know about openmosix, but with ltsp you did need to enable kernel network auto-detection (network options, goes along with dhcp and bootp), and some special root-over-nfs mode in the network filesystem section.
