I get an error while emerging (updating) xine-ui-0.9.22-r1 (stable in portage):

Code:

perl ./build-xine-check.pl ./xine-check.en
chmod a+x xine-check
ln -s xine-check xine-bugreport

I'm also doing xine-ui-0.9.23-r1 with no luck - it seems top me that it is the buggiest programme around..every other post seems to be about xine.

well, i like it either way. i had never problem while running it (some crashes maybe, but these could have been triggered by the dvd or my dvd rom itself), so if you get past the installation part you are satisfied.

Hmm, I don't think xine is buggy, I've never had a problem with it. That wasn't the case before I started using gentoo, before that I could never get it to play dvds. But I have the same problem with updating to xine-ui-0.9.22-r1 from xine-ui-0.9.22.

Thanx,
Stan

Well, xine runs fine here (just watched the Matrix Revolutions DVD with it!), but there seems to be something wrong with the latest ebuilds for xine-ui.

To get past the xine-bugreport symlink creation error, delete that file from the ebuild work directory immediately after the distfile is unpacked.

You'll need two terminals open to do this "on the fly" while xine-ui is merging.

Terminal 1:

Code:

bash-2.05b# emerge -u xine-ui

Wait for emerge to display the message that file was successfully unpacked, then fairly quickly in the second terminal do this:

Code:

bash-2.05b# cd /var/tmp/portage/xine-ui-0.9.22-r1/work/xine-ui-0.9.22/misc
bash-2.05b# rm xine-bugreport

The emerge should complete without further errors, if that's the only problem you had.

hey that worked!

1. how did you figure that out?

2. why was it causing a problem?

While that certainly will do the trick, it is really not a good answer. Has anyone filed a bugzilla report on this?

BTW. I have tried the xine-ui update on two of my machines. One comiled all the way through without problems, the other complained about xine-bugreport.

For the symlink problem, see comment 25 of bug 45448.

Quote:
Add the line

Code:
rm misc/xine-bugreport

as the first line inside the Braces of the src_compile routine in the ebuild and it all works..
