When I enable preemtible kernel in kernel config and compiles the kernel it will not load my via82xx alsa driver.. unresolved symbols. Is there a fix for this? I would like to be able to use kernel preemption and still have sound |

Did you recompiled the alsa-drivers after that? _________________ Lego my ego, and I'll lego your knowledge

yes I did. The problem is when I insmod the soundcore.o module, it complains about unresolved symbols. As far as I have figured out it is something with the modules needing "preemption stuff" (sorry won't be more specific because I don't really know what im talking about ).
hmm then I tried to toggle SMP off (I have a uni processor system) and the kernel wouldn't compile.. several make errors.
Strange.. Now I have downloaded and compiled ck-sources.. which work with just what I wan't to. Preemtiple kernel, no SMP, alsa via82xx driver. Hmm whatever.. much lower latency.. but strange. |

I have both the sound drivers you mentioned, and alsa, and
preemptible kernel and it's working for me.
You might try doing this before compiling kernel:
cd /usr/src/linux
cp .config ~
make clean mrproper
cp ~/.config .
make your kernel as usual. Sometimes I guess the source
tree gets messed up. It may not help at all, just guessing |

if all above does not work try renaming your kernel modules dir(/lib/modules/kernel-version) before compile and install modules, I have to do this one time to make modules work again |
