Is it just me or is there no way to ftp into anything that requires authentication in the new Nautilus? I open up the browser mode of the file manager, punch in "ftp://server.com/" and the lagin just fails. It never asks for a password or anything.
After using Konq for so long, I have little interest in a seperate FTP client. How do I tell it what authentication information to use? _________________ Repeat after me! This world is made of love and peace! |

ftp://username:password@hostname.domain
That's the correct format, it works well for me. I like using the new spatial gnome as my ftp client..works well. _________________ *Fortitudo, aequitas, fidelitas.* |

how does one go about getting sftp://user:passwd@server.com to work? I've been able to connect to this same server using an sftp client before, but I can't seem to get it to work in nautilus. Normal ftp:// works for me though. |

Is there anyway to do it without revealing my password to everyone in the known universe? _________________ Repeat after me! This world is made of love and peace! |

well, you are talking about ftp, even if you cannot see the password as you type it into the prompt it is still be transferred across the internet in plain text.... |

sftp://username@server.com works fine for me. But I also set up keys with a passphrase for my ssh-access and I use ssh-add right when I log in to keep my passphrase so I don't need a password for the authentication. |

I know it's transmitted plain text but I'm less worried about the packet sniffers than the non-technical types that I live with. Their friends in particular. _________________ Repeat after me! This world is made of love and peace! |
