I just installed Red Hat 9, I installed all of the depedenices and didn't have any problems, but when trying to run a test i get the following:

Quote:
[root@server nick]# myvcd test -sample -quality best -svcdout -dvd 1 -chapter 2

-dvd N is deprecated, use dvd://N instead.

Now it just sits and doesn't do anything, I have libdvdread.so.3 installed, I was going to try backleveling this but I didn't know if it is what was causing the problem or if it was something else. Did mplayer possibly install wrong? I can't find the mplayer.conf file on my system.

Thanks

steelrose It looks like your question was answered on page 4 of this thread. Reading what an amazing thing!

robint99 wrote:
I had this error too and eventually tracked it down to the -N option in mpeg2enc. Apparently this now needs an argument, whereas I think before it didn't ....

To fix the problem, look for the code snippet in myvcd that looks like this

Code:

 # mjpegtools (-q will set to constant quality)
                 ($denoise < $VIDEO | \
                yuvscaler -v 0 $wide -O $norm $size $yuvin | \
                mpeg2enc -4 $reduction4 -2 $reduction2 -N -M $NCPU  -r  $search_rad$

and change it to

Code:

# mjpegtools (-q will set to constant quality)
                 ($denoise < $VIDEO | \
                yuvscaler -v 0 $wide -O $norm $size $yuvin | \
                mpeg2enc -4 $reduction4 -2 $reduction2 -N 1 -M $NCPU  -r  $search_rad$

This fixed it for me, and myvcd now works perfectly again ....

Unfortunatly steelrose yes it is :( I have tried to contact the author a few times to no avail. I even offered my limited services to help out but got no responces. Pitty because this had potential.

 Unfortunely . I hope someone can continue working on this project. This had potential.I discovered other ways to create kvcd in linux but this one was automated. It didn't require any knowledge in video editing.Anyway i hope one day we will see an automation vcd creation software in linux

just a thought, but how big are the files? Could the file be so large it requires 2 cds? I'm assuming you've since given up since it's been so long without a reply

Yeah, I've stopped using myvcd and am now happily using transcode with help gotten from the dvd authoring howto in these forums... much more flexible. Thanks for the reply anyway though!

How do I encode from a directory containing the same contents as a DVD? (*.BUPs, *.VOBs, and *.IFOs). ??

Any Ideas?

I am using this script, but the script need to be updated. Mplayer doesn't use -dvd, -pcm, or -waveheader anymore. I have updated the script, but I don't want to post my script from using my personal web host. Would you like me to email you the copy?

Do you want the diff file or the full script? I didn't really change script much, I only add the option to parse the -dvd option as dvd:// and changed the mplayer options.
