I've tried this half a dozen times now, and every time I try "ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge xfree" it chugs along for what seems like an hour, then gives up like this:

Code:
installing in lib/GL/GL...

gcc -m32    -c -o ../../../lib/GL/glx/glapi_x86.o ../../../lib/GL/glx/glapi_x86.

make: *** [install] Error 2

!!! ERROR: x11-base/xfree-4.3.0 failed.

!!! (no error message)

anybody else get this error? any suggestions? I'm thinking that maybe I should delete the downloaded source tarballs and make it re-download them... it seems like there are a couple missing header files. My current Xfree install is from GRP and not built myself, so is there a possibility that something is missing because of that?

I'd rather not go through an "emerge --emptytree xfree" and have it rebuilt all that stuff... I've been sick lately and my only refuges for entertainment have been messing with my computer and hijacking my brother's PS2 to play Metal Gear Solid 2.

I ran into same problem.

Some more info... I recently bought ATI Radeon (instead of nVidia) and after reading some posts here, i decided to upgrade to xfree-4.3. Unmerged nvidia GLX and kernel, changed opengl to xfree (opengl-update xfree). Then emerge xfree-drm (as in previous posts, with ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 in command line). Nothing changed when trying to emerge just xfree (without drm).

so... still borked then? (pardon me, I haven't had any coffee yet this morning)

I guess I should throw in the fact that I'm using a Geforce 3, so it's not an ATi-specific problem. I can post USE flags or CFLAGS or whatnot, but I don't think they have any bearing here.

After emerge sync it seems to compile OK. I still got problems with install, but it's because i've ran out of disk space (yuck!) :)

Wow, it did the trick, thank you very much! :) I was lazy to wait for emerge -u world, because gcc should be updated, too.
Now there is problem with xfree-drm, but I will try to update rest of the world (and try to keep portage not to downgrade xfree back, editing /var/cache/edb/world to say >=xfree-4.3.0 doesnt work, probably some app has xfree as dependency and when run without ~x86 keyword, it tries to downgrade). And when it will not work, there is thread about it

after updating kernel (gentoo-sources 2.4.19-r10 -> 2.4.20-r1) xfree-drm emerged successfully. Cool 8)
