Cool, I didn't know that the source was available. Where did you get it, maybe I can try.

Try emerge -s duke3d and you'll find an ebuild for it

I would take a guess and say that the video mode isn't properly defined in the Duke Nukem configuration file(s). Try poking around them and see what you come up with.

You need a copy of duke 3d and use the data files to play the game.

Thanks for the post FormerSlacker. I misread the README file that came with Duke3d. Now I have to dig up my old Duke cd and give it a go.

Enjoy the day all

i just had the same problem with the video mode initialization. i solved it by copying /etc/games/duke3d.cfg to ~/.duke3d/duke3d.cfg

but i wonder why the config file is installed to /etc if it's not used?!? or am i just doing sth. wrong?

i've got some other questions on the duke3d configuration:
first, how can i play the game in windowed mode. i saw a screenshot on the official site, so it should be possible. but how?
and second, is it possible to configure the mouse for looking in all directions rather the moving forward and backward?

thx
