Hello!

I have a Pinnacle Systems PCTV Pro card that can be used as TV or Radio card. But what do I have to do to make it work?

It uses the BT878 chip.

How do I install the BTTV drivers? Or is there another way?

Thanks

enable the bttv drivers in your kernel (IIRC in the I2C section) or go to the v4l website to download the binaries

well the normal way to do is
1) compile i2c-support in the kernel
2) compile i2c bit-banging interfaces in the kernel
3) compile i2c device interface in the kernel
4) compile v4l-support in the kernel
5) compile bt848 as module
6) load the bttv module for your card with
Code:
modprobe bttv card=52

7) compile xawtv and start it ;)

P.S. the search function might have helped with your problem

It is much better to compile i2c stuff as modules as if you want to use lm-sensors and possibly other things a version of i2c newer than that in the klernel is required and if compiled in the modules created by emerge i2c will not be used.

Okay. I have done as Camoes said. However when I try to compile the kernel, I get the following error message:

Quote:
drivers/media/media.o(.text+0xc610): In function 'pvr_load'
: undefined reference to 'mod_firmware_load'
make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1

What am I doing wrong?

Please help!

take care that "line in" of your soundcard is unmuted

Ok. The Mixer settings are okay. But there is still no sound. And I only have picture in the grabdisplay mode and not in the overlay mode. And this in xawtv AND tvtime.

On bttv module load I specified card number 52, which should be allright.
It loads the modules msp3400, tda7432, tda9875, tda9887, tuner and tvaudio.

What do all these modules do?
But in the cards file that came with bttv it reads:
Pinnacle PCTV Pro (Bt878, MT2032)

What does the MT2032 mean?

Has anyone got the Pinnacle PCTV Pro up and running?

Please help !!!

I have a card with the same chip (bt878) and no sound on the TV card's output line. However, xawtv's mute button does turn on/off static on the TV card's output line.

So, I too am living in a quite world.

Did you modprobe tuner ?

In my setup I have this in my /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel2.4
tuner type=5
bttv card=13

Yes. My card is card=100 and tuner=5, which gets listed as expected, as you can see below. tvaudio finds a tda9874a, which is what the bttv driver claims this card has. So all looks fine here.

I also tried the btaudio module to see if I could get any sounds via that route. Nope. The problem exists without btaudio as well.

Can anyone explain what the numbers mean such as :

tuner=5
bttv card=53

What does the 53 mean and how can I find out what number I should be using?

Thanks. :o

just a thought, sorry if you already tried that, but :

did you set the "capture" devices (press space in alsamixer) for both "line" and "capture" ? depending if you are using btaudio or simply the line-in of your sound card, this might be it.

those are matching values for tvcards models and tuners. check out the readme files in the bttv archive you can download from http://bytesex.org

they are used when autodetection doesn't work (which is... pretty much all the time)

hey everyone,
i had the exact same problem till i set up my tv card more carefully. i downloaded the bttv package from bytesex.org to get the card and tuner list, and found the exact settings for my card. in addition to the modules mentioned above, i compiled the bt8xx module from the 'sound' menu in genkernel, and added that to modules.autoload.d. i did nothing to my modules.conf, didnt need to. in my modules.autoload.d/kernel2.4:
msp3400
btaudio
tuner type=1
bttv tuner=1 card=70
of course, replace 'type=' and 'tuner=' with yourtuner number, and 'card=' with your card number from the tarball from http://www.bytesex.org/bttv
i ran zapping and voila, sound!

hope it helps

I modprobed btaudio and I still get no sound. I even attached the patch cable internally and got nothing. Here's what I get when modprobe btaudio.

Code:

modprobe btaudio
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/kernel/drivers/sound/btaudio.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/kernel/drivers/sound/btaudio.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/kernel/drivers/sound/btaudio.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r9/kernel/drivers/sound/btaudio.o: insmod btaudio failed
