When I try to emerge gnome 2.6._rc5
The dependencies start with two blocks:
[blocks B ] x11-themes/gtk-engines-thinice (from pkg x11-themes/gnome-themes-2.6.0)
[blocks B ] gnome-extra/acme (from pkg gnome-base/control-center-2.6.0.2)
How do I resolve this. If I unmerge the gtk-engines-thinice and acme won't that break other packages?

You can safely unmerge those, by the time your emerge is all done, you'll have the same system as far as gtk-engines-thinice and acme go.
Essentially, blocks happen because one package offers the same functionality that another does. gnome-themes comes with the thinice engine, and the ACME functionality was merged into the keyboard applet.
So, yes, you will need to unmerge gtk-engines-thinice and acme to be able to emerge what you're trying to emerge, which will break your multimedia keys and any thinice based themes you may be using. But, after the emerge is finished, you'll have the same functionality that you started with. |
