Before:

I've done every imaginable thing trying to get my Audigy Card working with Linux. I'm using the vanilla-sources kernel (2.4.22). When configuring the kernel, I enabled sound support, OSS, and the SBLive! EMU10K1 option. I then did "emerge emu10k1". Then I installed gnome and the sound does not work. When trying to change the mixer settings, I get something about either not having a "/dev/mixer" or a "/dev/sound/mixer" device. I don't care if I have to do things as modules, use ALSA, or whatever; I just want it to work and play stuff. Any people who use this card know what to do? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

After:

To get your Audigy working, with nothing special perhaps, you need to go into your sound options in your kernel. Make sound support, OSS, EMU10k1 and SBLIVE MIDI modules. Then do emerge emu10k1.

Hi,
I had the same problem,(with the same kernel...)
but now it work great
I followed the guide in the www.gentoo.org doc section, Alsa
but don't build the support for SBlive in the kernel, just for soundcard
then follow the guide (emerge alsa....)

I hope it would be usefull for you.

Don't forget to re-emerge alsa-drivers anytime you install a new kernel
Also, the sound card comes up w/ all outputs muted. Run alsamixer to enable the outputs you want.

Some good recomendations for your /etc/modules.d/alsa file
options snd-emu10k1 extin=0x3fff extout=0x1fff #Enables all audigy/audigy drive I/O

For more in depth information check out http://opensrc.org/alsa/index.php?page=emu10k1

I also copied /usr/share/alsa/cards/Audigy.conf /etc/asound.conf

Caevot: I have 5.1 sound working using 6channel output, Optical spdif works (stereo only, card limitation as far as my research shows)
AC3 pass through works but only if I plug the subwofer cable into the Digital/SPDIF input on my receiver. -sigh-

Obviously I don't have everything figured out. I have it working but I don't yet have a good understanding of everything.

Not entirely. :?
I followed the instructions of the above site and ,though the soundcard worked, it wasn't very satisfactory.Of course it depends on what you expect from your soundcard.Damn those dorks in Creative

I actually first emerged emu10k1 and it complained about kernel configuration providing me with all the choises that should be made.emu10k1 should not be present even as module(not loaded).
Now my Audigy works but the Front Left and Back Left speakers sound louder.

Does anybody know a decent mixer for linux audigy with four point configuration??
