Definitely not in my expierences in the past. I tried it in the past and the ebuild builds every step.

Do not expect that the build setup is easy and such.

also the binary ships with everything.

it is not like from redmond with the office 97 that you could install only one component.

these days the components depends on each otehrs too much that it will be able easily to rip out only one component.

you may build the hole office suite and than delete the single components afterwards like calc and such, but I do not recommend it and I do not want to try and verify this possibility.

natrix,

Yes its possible as some binary distros do it.
However, you hove to build it all then throw away the bits you don't want.
The build system does not support building individual elements.

Gentoo ebuilds don't support installing individual elements.

It would be cool if LibreOffice build system supported building individual applications separately. It would take much less compiling time if you don't want to use everything. But that's an upstream problem I think.

Thanks guys!

Hello,

Try Abiword, it's stand-alone. Not as good as *office, but quite enough to open and understand OOXML documents.
In the same way, there is Gnumeric for spreadsheets.

Both compile faster than *office and are lighter.

I have this problem with Abiword. It require gnome-base/librsvg and I have a MASK to gnome-base/*.

Is posible avoid "/librsvg"? exist other SVG library? Are we gnome-dependent?

abiword and gnumeric depends on gnome base libs, but it doesn't pull so much gnome stuff.
