I'd like to play audio CDs. The libcdio /usr/bin/cdda-player seems to access disks without any problem, but not mplayer:
Quote: | $ mplayer /dev/cdrom
MPlayer SVN-r36370 (Gentoo)-4.7.3 (C) 2000-2013 MPlayer Team
MMX2 supported but disabled
Playing /dev/cdrom.
libavformat version 54.63.104 (external)
Exiting... (End of file)
|
Ubuntu's suggestion:
Quote: | $ mplayer cdda://
MPlayer SVN-r36370 (Gentoo)-4.7.3 (C) 2000-2013 MPlayer Team
MMX2 supported but disabled
Playing cdda://.
No stream found to handle url cdda://
Exiting... (End of file)
|
And a great succession of the following is in messages.
Quote: | Oct 24 14:39:11 mr-lazy kernel: sr 0:0:1:0: [sr0]

I don't believe there is anything fancy in my use flags:
Quote: | # grep cdio /var/db/pkg/media-video/mplayer-1.2_pre20130729/USE
X abi_x86_64 alsa amd64 bindist cdio dvd dvdnav elibc_glibc enca encode iconv jpeg kernel_linux libass mmx mp3 network osdmenu png shm sse sse2 truetype unicode userland_GNU xscreensaver xv |
I don't know. Any ideas as to why I can't play audio CDs?

Things to try:
- USE="-cdio cdparanoia" emerge mplayer. Maybe cdparanoia will have better luck than cdio.
- mplayer2 or mpv instead of old mplayer. Both of them are forks of mplayer, and mpv seems to be the trend nowadays, and it's the way where most development takes place.

i92guboj, I dip my lid
USE="-cdio cdparanoia" emerge mplayer and mplayer cdda:// works, unlike mplayer /dev/cdrom.
Interestingly mpv cdda:// works with the standard USE="cdio". mpv /dev/cdrom does not work.
I think the lesson is move to mpv. |

That I guess. To tell the truth, for me, anything cd or dvd related under linux has always been a matter of trial and error. Overall when it comes to burning but also in all that relates to audiocd.
Anyway I am glad that you found a solution. |
