Hi,

Just for the fun of it I would like to get some desktop effects in addition to those that come with Kwin (or an alternative to Kwin). After some research I found that compiz fusion seams to be most popular. However, going to www.compiz.org it seams to be a bit dated. Any article I found about it is a couple years old. I wonder if it is still maintained or if others are recommended. Can you give me some tips what would be the best option? I would like to diss some of my friends running win8 and are barely allowed to change the border color for windows :) Can I safely install compiz or should I choose something else? What would be a good choice?

After some more reading about the topic I found that compiz is pretty much abandoned. There seams to be some maintenance work on it but development has been stopped. Apparently there are also no planes to port compiz for wayland. Does anyone know wheter there will be an alternative at some point?

Also, KDE 5 should already be released. Does anyone know when it will be moved from the overlay and integrated in portage?

kde-look.org has a section "KWin Effects", though nothing great o find there IMHO.
BUT... ;) there is bekwinfx - yay! It's in the kde overlay. Basically it's there to build your own fancy effects. Quite extreme configurability that needs time to play with!
