Keyboard over LAN?

I'd like to use a USB keyboard attached to computer #1 on computer #2 which are both on the same ethernet LAN. Is synergy the best solution for this?

I don't want the keypresses to register on computer #1.

Synergy works really well. There's even a Windows client: you can cut & paste between the two OS's.
