1. right click on workspace, panel, preferences
2. change output to automatic if not already
3. check span monitors
4. settings, display, disable any HDMI monitorsby unchecking "use this display"

expected:
my goal is to have the desktop span multiple monitors but have different content, a spread desktop like I have on windows.

actual:
- currently, the 2 NEC 1440x900 (DVI-D and DVI-I) monitors always have duplicate content regardless of monitor and display settings.
- My Acer 1920x1080 HDMI monitor shows "Input not supported" (it moves around like the pong game, slowly, and it's blue background wiith white letters, rest of screen is black)
- the span monitors checkbox doesn't do anything.
I have 3 monitors, 1 DVI-I@1440x900, 1 DVI-D@1440x900, 1 HDMI@1920x1080.
I tried using all the same resolution. nothing changed.
I have tried everything related to settings, display, monitor, workspace, and installing an nvidia driver (which failed)

I don't know how I would add HDMI support. my video card is a GTX 670.

VERSION OF GENTOO I AM USING:

PROBLEM - PARALLEL COMPILES WITH (make) -j USUALLY ERROR:
I have not checked this out yet, I should. the System Rescue CD comes with /etc/portage/*conf having make options set to -j5. setting -j (parallel gcc compiles) typically breaks builds in my experience and throws massive errors that it would not without the -j switch, becuase most makefiles in packages cannot handle parallelism. or maybe make itself has a bug in that area or gcc cannot handle parallel compiles.

it's a nice option, I would keep it around in case projects that portage uses finally get the build files working correctly for parallelism. but I would not recommend it until then.

BUG: THE LATEST NVIDIA DRIVERS (340) WON'T BUILD:
root@sysresccd /root % emerge --deep -av media-video/nvidia-settings x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers
...
it tries to rebuild the kernel or parts of it.
