When I try to launch Quake3, system freezes. It stops when there should come mainmenu. I think that's a hardware problem. I have Vortex 2, Nvidia Geforce, Athlon. Think the problem is in sound card drivers. (Used CVS drivers from sourceforge.net) |

Some more information would be useful - i.e. some XFree86 logs, lspci output, what version of nvidia drivers you're using, whether it's a hard lock or whether you can kill Quake3.
It seems to me, right off the bat, that it might be a problem with permissions on your sound devices; make sure your user can write to /dev/dsp. I also like to let users write to /dev/dsp*, /dev/mixer* and /dev/midi* _________________ "The degree to which life sucks is directly proportional to your blood/caffeine ratio" |

First, this should be in the Games forum.
Second,
Either as a regular user or as root, depending on how your permissions are set up.
At least, if it's the common problem I assume it is. |
