Hello:

I'm trying to run a program, openscad, which uses X to do rendering.

I've heard about xvfb to do this, and tried installing it using xorg-server with the following flags: ipv6, minimal, nptl, suid, udev, xvfb, and an init script that looks like this:

Code:
#!/sbin/runscript
# Copyright 2006 Andreas Bulling
# Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2

start() {
        ebegin "Starting virtual X frame buffer: Xvfb"

        start-stop-daemon --start --pidfile $PIDFILE --make-pidfile --background --exec $XVFB -- $XVFBARGS

        eend ${?}
}

stop() {
        ebegin  "Stopping virtual X frame buffer: Xvfb"

        start-stop-daemon --stop --pidfile $PIDFILE

        eend ${?}
}

And I can run the application, but I yield a lot of errors in running the application, that I associate to having it incorrectly set up:

Code:

glXChooseFBConfig failed
Can't create OpenGL OffscreenView. Code: -1.

Is there a good tutorial on setting up xvfb properly to support this? Does someone know if I'm doing this incorrectly?

Xvfb does not support glx. Maybe see if you can use Xdummy instead of xvfb.

IIRC minimal useflag disables dri (and glx) in xorg-server, so it might not be a good idea to set it.
