I emerged mate and in its default state it maximizes windows across both screens. I am using the nouveau driver. I think this might be a problem with X but I am not sure how to fix it. |

did you build all relevant mate packages with USE=xinerama?
that might be the problem _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

In particular, it is on x11-wm/mate-window-manager ( in MATE 1.6 ) or x11-wm/marco ( in MATE 1.8 ) that you'll want this USE=xinerama flag enabled; other than that, note that Marco is a fork of Metacity so you might be able to find Metacity instructions that apply for Marco. Some searching reveals that it can be solved by adjusting Xorg.conf to work correctly; however, I haven't found the particular things to correct in there but you might be able to figure out by trying some of the differences. If that doesn't help, another cause could be that Nouveau doesn't work well in your particular setup; I've experienced trouble with that in the past where a second screen was incorrectly initialized and therefore did different things than what you would expect it to do, whereas the NVIDIA drivers worked fine for the same thing. Iotw, also try the NVIDIA drivers if you don't mind. |
