Hi

Can't find anything relevant with a forum search, so I guess this issue is unique to me.

In recent times, I'm getting the following errors when printing:

1. frequent paper jams (which may be hardware related, but ...)
2. printer keeps telling me to 'Check Paper Size'. If I reset the error it returns on next print.
3. printer prints a page and then several blank pages

I've been using the printer (Epson Aculaser C4100) for many years, from assorted Gentoo boxes. It was working fine (apart from occasional jams) until recently when the symptoms above appeared.

I've checked settings on printer (everything is A4), as well as my settings in CUPS (also everything A4). Printing simplex or duplex are both problematic. At the moment I am printing single pages simplex, but still have the problems.

What else can I check to fix this? I need to determine if this is hardware or software.

thanks, Ian

I have a hunch your printer needs maintenance.
Sounds like sensors etc. are malfunctioning.
Printers are mechanical mostly.

Thanks for the document. Indeed I think it needs a good service, it's never had one and it's probably over 10 years old already. However the running costs are really high and I think it's time it was retired... even though it has plenty of consumables inside. Really difficult ... perhaps someone will buy it ...

thanks, Ian
