Gnome terminal won't echo my typing. Also, it only consistently displays the prompt. If I do ls -l I only see some of the file names, no dates or times. If I save the output of ls -l to a file, and I do a cat of the file, there is no output except blank lines. My commands are performed, but the text doesn't appear, and there is no output for most commands.
vi in gnome-terminal seems to work just fine.
xterm works just fine. If I do search, the text box in gnome-terminal echoes my text just fine.
I do not have the full blown gnome desktop.
I just updated my system, and gnome-terminal is:
Code: | [ebuild R ] x11-terms/gnome-terminal-3.10.2 USE="nautilus" 0 kB
|
Nautilus seems to be fine too. |

Could it be a problematic color scheme? (e.g. text color == background color) |

gnome-terminal pays no attention to my color settings in the profiles, not even the background color. xfce4-terminal works just fine. xfce4-terminal is good enough for me. |

See if 'ls --color=never' makes a difference. |
