Can you post the xorg.conf file and output from 'lspci' ?

Looks like you don't have CONFIG_DRM_I915_KMS enabled in your kernel.

It's many years since I needed an xorg.conf file; are you sure it's necessary?
(Though it might well still be needed for advanced configuration).

Very good point.

lhw828, did you do what chithanh suggested? Have you tried without the xorg.conf file ? Also the output of 'lspci' and 'emerge --info' might help us find an answer for you.
