I emerged KDE with the kde-meta ebuild. It installed kdm. Trying to follow the wiki page, I could not follow it because /etc/conf.d/xdm does not exist to set kdm as the default login display manager, and /etc/init.d/xdm init script does not exist to launch it at boot.

So, I tried emerging xdm. Still, neither of these files were installed.

Am I missing something? What do I have to emerge to get the config file for /etc/conf.d and initscript? Or, is there an up-to-date page to explain what I have to do to launch KDM on bootup?

Code:
$ qfile /etc/init.d/xdm
x11-base/xorg-server (/etc/init.d/xdm)

$ qfile /etc/conf.d/xdm
x11-base/xorg-server (/etc/conf.d/xdm)

Hope that helps :)

Interesting.... kde-meta does not pull in xorg-server, I rather assumed that it would pull in everything it needed....

Emerging now. Thanks. :)

This comes up from time to time. KDE doesn't pull in xorg-server because it doesn't actually require it - one might use it, for example, over VNC, virtual framebuffer, etc.
