After a succesful install of gentoo I boot up to find there is no internet. So I come into the LiveCD try everything everyone tells me, but after I do adsl-setup and adsl-start I lose the internet on my LiveCD! The weird thing is, it's only after I chroot I lose my net on my LiveCD. Any ideas as to why?

If by "lose internet" you mean "can't do anything inside chroot", try copying /etc/resolv.conf --> (chroot)/etc/resolv.conf , otherwise name-->ip resolution won't work |

You might want to also issues an "ifconfig" to see if your network interfaces are up and running and also properly configured. _________________ No Matter Where You Go, There You Are |

I copied resolv.conf but it didnt't help. I type ifconfig and got my eth0 card and loopback. Which means my ethernet card is seen right? Just a bit more information on what happened:
I installled Gentoo, chrooted, installed gnome kde and all that.
Rebooted into my new gentoo install, it failed to bring eth0 up. My internet didn't work on the system itself but always seemed to work on the LiveCD (I did lsmod and I know I have the right card in the kernel). So my friend told me to try adsl-setup (though I was skeptical, I was behind a router and that handled the password and username to connect to the server). He said to emerge rp-pppoe also, so I did. But the I lost internet on my LiveCD.
I'm curious about two things now.
What can I do to fix my internet on the actually installed system and how can I get the chrooted net to work? Maybe somehow a config file got written by rp-pppoe or adsl-setup that corrupted it?
P.S as far as teh actual system internet not working, it works on slack 9 with the same kernel (not optimized though, the standard slack) and it even told me my card was a 8139(too). When I lsmod the livecd it has 8139too module loaded. At this point, I doubt it's a kernel problem (do I need to emerge pppd or anything specific?)
