Hi,

I'm trying to run python-updater and could use a pointer to interpreting the following error:
Code:
# python-updater -p
 * Starting Python Updater...
 * Main active version of Python:    3.3
 * Active version of Python 2:       2.7
 * Active version of Python 3:       3.3
 * Globally supported Python ABIs in installed repositories:
 *   gentoo:                         2.4 2.5 2.6 2.7 3.1 3.2 3.3 2.5-jython 2.7-jython 2.7-pypy-1.7 2.7-pypy-1.8 2.7-pypy-1.9 2.7-pypy-2.0
 *   Adding to list: app-text/gnome-doc-utils:0
 *   Adding to list: dev-python/PyQt4:0
 *   Adding to list: dev-python/argparse:0
 *   Adding to list: dev-python/pygobject:2
 *   Adding to list: dev-python/setuptools:0
 *   Adding to list: dev-python/sip:0
 *   Adding to list: kde-base/pykde4:4
 *   Adding to list: media-libs/lcms:0
 *   Adding to list: sys-libs/libcap-ng:0
 * emerge -Dv1 --keep-going -p app-text/gnome-doc-utils:0 dev-python/PyQt4:0 dev-python/argparse:0 dev-python/pygobject:2 dev-python/setuptools:0 dev-python/sip:0 kde-base/pykde4:4 media-libs/lcms:0 sys-libs/libcap-ng:0

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies -

!!! Problem resolving dependencies for dev-python/argparse:0
... done!

!!! The ebuild selected to satisfy "dev-python/argparse:0" has unmet requirements.
- dev-python/argparse-1.2.1-r2::gentoo USE="" PYTHON_TARGETS="-python2_6"

  The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:
    python_targets_python2_6

  The above constraints are a subset of the following complete expression:
    any-of ( python_targets_python2_6 )

I tried adding the following line to /etc/portage/package.use:
Code:
dev-python/argparse python_targets_python2_7 python_targets_python3_3* -python_\
targets_python2_6 -python_targets_python3_2*

Which generates the following:
Code:

 # emerge --newuse -p dev-python/argparse

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- dev-python/argparse-1.2.1::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# MichaŠGórny <mgorny@gentoo.org> (26 Apr 2014)
# (on behalf of Python team)
# Python 2.6 is no longer supported upstream and security issue fixes
# are not provided anymore. Python 2.7 is almost drop-in replacement.
# The Python itself will be masked in 30 days, and all packages will be
# removed in 60 days.

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

My /etc/portage/package.mask has only one line which has nothing to do with python:
Code:
>=net-misc/unison-2.41

Any hints on how to proceed?

nw_biohazard ...

python:2.6 is masked for removal, so you need to depclean it.

Code:
# emerge --depclean --ask dev-lang/python:2.6
# python-updater

nw_biohazard ...

ok, its dev-python/argparse thats masked and slatted for removal ... the package.mask entry doesn't mention the package itself just python:2.6. Anyhow you need to remove it ...

Code:
# emerge --depclean dev-python/argparse

You should then be able to run 'python-updater' without issues.

best ... khay

Thanks! That fixed it.

I should be more vigilant about "depcleaning" but I've been bit before so am pretty cautious.
