This is very strange considering that chromium is mainly developed by google and google owns youtube.com. When I open youtube video page in chromium it shows error message in place of video: "An error occurred, please try again later.". Same video works fine when opened in firefox.

Are you using https://www.youtube.com/ ? If yes - does http work? The video content from googlevideos.com depends on the RC4 cipher, which is considered insecure by now. If RC4 is disabled in browser settings, the outcome is as you describe. See here:

Other possibilities: Youtube uses HTML5 by default if the user agent is chrome/chromium, and Flash by default for other user agents. You can change the setting here: http://www.youtube.com/html5/.

Chromium recently stopped using NPAPI flash, it now needs the pepper flash (www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins).

When that happened to me it was because I didn't install the pepper flash player. It tries to use HTML5 usually by default and will fallback to flash if available. Make sure flash is installed (if desired) and also try getting HTML5 by installing gstreamer with gst-plugins-*. I'm not sure which ones exactly you need (search might help) but probably start with gst-plugins-base and gst-plugins-good.
