i tried looking this up and cant find anything recent about it

everything works ok with opengl 2.0 compositing, but when switching to 3.1 compositing it crashes kwin

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Pitcairn XT [Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition]

using kde 4.13.1

mesa-10.1.3

xf86-video-ati-7.3.0

radeon opensource drivers

VIDEO_CARDS="radeon radeonsi"

using glamor use flags

Most likely your graphics drivers at fault.

I should try the fglrx drivers then? They work with kernel 3.14?

later version of opengl compositing in kde?

i donno everything seems to work fine with opengl 2.0 compositing using the raster graphics system

If it works, don't break it. Please don't install the binary blob just to be able to select a higher number in a drop-down menu. While it might support higher OpenGL version than radeon in theory, it really is inferior and not worth the hassle. ;)

If you want to play around with the 3.1 option, you could unmask mesa-10.2 (that means -9999 currently available in x11 overlay) and see if that helps.
