It seems to me that lightdm-gtk-greeter ignores some of the configuration settings in /etc/lightdm. So I have:
grep -v '^#' lightdm.conf:
[LightDM]
sessions-directory=/usr/share/xsessions:/usr/share/gnome-session/sessions

session-wrapper=/etc/lightdm/Xsession
[SeatDefaults]
greeter-hide-users=false
greeter-show-remote-login=true
session-wrapper=/etc/lightdm/Xsession

[Seat:0]
type=xlocal

[Seat:1]
type=xlocal
xdmcp-manager=pantry

[Seat:2]
type=xlocal
xdmcp-manager=pimpama

[XDMCPServer]

[VNCServer]
grep -v '^#' lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf:
[greeter]
background=/usr/share/lightdm/backgrounds/gentoo-bg_65.jpg
theme-name=Adwaita
icon-name=gnome
cursor-name=gnome
font-name=Cantarell 11
xft-antialias=true
xft-dpi=96
xft-hintstyle=hintslight
xft-rgba=rgb
grep -v '^#' users.conf:
[UserAccounts]
minimum-uid=100
hidden-users=nobody nobody4 noaccess
hidden-shells=/bin/false /usr/sbin/nologin
The two goals I have are:
  • show a list of users so I don't have to type the user id.
  • work out what the 'Others ...' drop-down list is on the login screen; is it for remote logins and if so how is it configured?
Thanks in expectation.
