Add new TT fonts, but xlsfonts can't find them

I added some TT fonts into /usr/lib/X11/fonts/truetype directory. And this
directory was already in /etc/X11/XF86config-4 and /etc/X11/fs/config files. Also I used ttmkfdir/mkfontdir to generate the new fonts.dir/fonts.alias files. But after I restarted X, the new fonts didn't appear in the xlsfonts list. Meanwhile it appeared in Mozilla font lists.Any idea why?

are you using a font server ? if so, did you restart it too ?
also, make sure you have the right permissions...

Oops, I forgot to chmod the ttf file I copied from windows. Now they appear
in xlsfonts
