Hi,
I just upgraded my system with a new Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H Mainboard and a Haswell processor.
After solving the boot problems with UEFI and SecureBoot I find myself with a few storage
related problems.
I use quite a few "naked" Harddisks in Quickports. Just since the switch to this board Hotplug
does not work any more for SATA / ESATA connected harddisks. No matter what I setup in
UEFI. I have explicitely activated AHCI and switched on or off the other options, no change.
Also I discovered that XHCI driver (USB3.0) connections are quite unstable. At least under linux 3.14.0
After a few GB it just hangs itself and the system has to be rebooted to be reactive again.
If I disable XHCI in UEFI setup USB is working stable, but it uses EHCI driver (USB2.0).
I am seriously out of ideas right now.
Anyone here has experienced something like that?
I would be grateful for any tip.

Hello! I use the Z87-C from Asus and several different internal (SSD, HDD) and external (USB-3.0) disks.
I cannot confirm your problems. For me, the USB-3.0 link is stable.
Maybe it's a defective MoBo? Do you get anything relevant from syslog? _________________ "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous."

Thanks for the reply,
The problem is partly shifted. The interesting part was that the disks did not get initialized.
Udev never got message that there was a new device.
After resetting to the "optimized defaults" and ONLY activating hotplug and nothing else I have
hotpluging of SATA.
I still have to deactivate the XHCI mode completely or I have to boot every time I transfer more
than a 1GB over USB.
Maybe some of the problems are caused by dying disks inside my main RAID5 and the old RAID
controller. I have to rebuild my data strategy and see that I use only the minimum of parts.
NEVER TOUCH A RUNNING SYSTEM!
Best advice you can give anyone. _________________ Video Encoding scripts collection | Project page |
