Hi guys, I was just wondering if there was a way to try out the new compositor Wayland ... I am aware that it is definitely not stable.

I have gone to systemd recently and was wondering if I could finally dump the last godzilla in my system (Xorg) ...

just wondering ...

Well, I'm playing around with pure Wayland since January.

I did a mini personal how-to in this thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7486872.html#7486872

Not sure if it will 100% work for you, since you are with systemd.

EDIT: Note that evince, gedit, gnumeric and transmission-remote-gtk are working on my pure wayland environment. There are others, but not installed in my machine.

It is possible to test, but there are limitations.
You can test with weston, the reference compositor which is in portage.
If you want to test with Gnome, many ebuilds have to be patched and git versions to be retrieved:
Mutter requires XWayland, and the latest version (the only one included in Xorg main branch) only works with git version of mutter, xorg-server and some of its dependencies. You will also have to add build flags in clutter and cogl (wayland-server and evdev).
