|
|
After an emerge -u system / world of my NFS server, the clients started to behave erratic
The /home/* directories are mounted via NFS from the server
The server and the clients boot normally, mounting vie NFS works but if someone
logs in immediately after boot, the desktop (Xfce/LXDE) takes 30-40 sec to start;
afterwards startup time is normal
When operating, after some time, new instances of Thunar and Xfce-terminal LXterminal do not
start in $HOME bit in the root directory of the client although the /home/* directory is fully accessible
This phenomenon prevents firefox from starting or opening a new tab. Trying to do so 'hangs'
firefox; ps -el shows a 'futex' under WCHAN. nfsstat shows excessive writes on the client side
If i rollback the server update (saved system to a separate partition) all clients work normally
I can find no errors messages in /var/log/messages or dmesg neither on the the server
nor on the clients
I seem to remeber , I had a similar problem some years ago; but searching for NFS or /home on
the net gets me tons of non-usable results
I will be happy to provide further information; thanks in advance for any help
