Now, this is starting to get annoying...

I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H motherboard, with an Intel Z77j Chipset.

According to the mboard user manual, support for USB is provided as follows:
Code:
Chipset:
- Up to 4 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through
the internal USB header)
* In Windows XP, the Intel USB 3.0 ports can support up to USB 2.0 transfer speed.
- Up to 10 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 6 ports available
through the internal USB headers)

Etron EJ168 chip:
- Up to 2 USB 3.0/2.0 ports on the back panel

The PC has 4 USB 2.0 and 4 USB 3.0 ports in the back and two USB 3.0 ports in the front.

Enter the first oddity:
Code:
naramsin /usr/src/linux # lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller (rev 09)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor PCI Express Root Port (rev 09)

00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SMBus Controller (rev 04)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Park [Mobility Radeon HD 5430]
01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300/7300 Series]
03:00.0 USB controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VL80x xHCI USB 3.0 Controller (rev 03)
04:00.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev 41)

07:00.0 SATA controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9172 SATA 6Gb/s Controller (rev 11)

So the USB additional controller is a VIA VL80x instead of the Etron EJ168 as claimed by the user manual, no big deal, probably they forgot to update the documentation.

Now for the annoying part...

I have a USB 3.0 docking station for HD. When I connect the docking station to:
Code:
1 USB 3.0 port in the back using a USB 3.0 cable, the system cannot detect the HD
2 USB 3.0 port in the back using a USB 2.0 cable, the system detects the HD
3 USB 2.0 port in the back using a USB 3.0 cable, the system detects the HD
4 USB 2.0 port in the back using a USB 2.0 cable, the system detects the HD
5 USB 3.0 port in the front using a USB 3.0 cable, the system detects the HD

I also have an IK Multimedia iRig HD which is basically an external soundcard. When I connect the iRih HD to:
1 USB 3.0 port in the front, jack is not able to open it
2 USB 2.0 port in the back, jack is not able to open it
3 USB 3.0 port in the back, jack detects regularly

Here's some info on when the card is working:
Code:
naramsin /home/pietro # cat /proc/asound/cards

Even stranger, and more annoying, is that when I connect the card to one of the non working USB ports and try to open the device with jack, when I disconnect it remains registered to the port in the USB bus. Here's a sample:
Code:
naramsin /usr/src/linux # cat /proc/asound/cards

Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

To cap it all, I also happen to have two Logitech wireless keyboards that work perfectly with my wife and my son windows 10 PC, put often get stuck when connected to my Linux box (regardless of the USB port).

Any ideas?

Thanks
